BOOKS
Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose
I can't believe it's nearly 20 years since I wrote my first book. But it's true what they say; the more things change,
the more they stay the same.
The Intranet Portal Guide
In simple terms, a book on 'How to Make the Business Case for a Corporate Portal, Then Successfully Deliver'.
But with the benefit of age and perspective, it was really a practical handbook on how to get any project delivered. Not the theory one gets taught on a course, but the tricks, tactics, and street-smarts.
One little component took on a life of it's own across the web, escaping the confines of its humble beginnings - "the j-curve of change". You can read more about the j-curve on my 'musings' blog, along with a more recent (but related) piece on the "death spiral of change".
I sometimes get requests for IPG (now it's out of print). If that is you please fill in the contact form below and I'll send you a free PDF copy. Or flip it at Internet Archive.
Get to the Top on Google
Translated into four languages, this was a book on the dark arts of SEO.
For a week, I outsold Stephen Covey. Lol. Technically it's still in print and still sold, but you can flip it on Issuu for free. I also have a few spare paperback copies (that I haven't given to the Scouts). So hit me up if you want one. Signed of course!
p.s. I am currently funding, researching and writing again (mostly from our holiday home in Provence). So more humble advice coming your way!

The Power of our Voices
We are in a time of global crisis for human rights more generally, and for freedom of expression in particular.
Democracies are failing, protest is suppressed, and only 1 in 7 people live in countries where they can seek, receive, or share information freely and safely.
I have spent more than a decade fighting this dark trend, with SciDev, Privacy International, and now (as a Board Trustee for) Article 19, the leading global NGO for freedom of expression and access to information.
Our Strategic Plan for 2022-26 is to defend and amplify The Power of Our Voices, to meet the challenge of our times... whenever and wherever we must.
On 10 December 23, we celebrated #HumanRightsDay and the 75th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Leaders across the world made their pledges for the next 75 years. Why not donate to the cause - or join our movement - so we can make sure they keep those promises!
WORK
To be An Extraordinary Airport, fit FOR THE FUTURE
Heathrow is the UK’s international gateway, the largest airport in Europe and the most connected megahub in the world; serving over 230 destinations in nearly 90 countries.
More like a small city than a business, Heathrow is the UK’s largest single-site employer. Over 90,000 people work together to serve over 80 million passengers a year.
I hold the Platforms brief on the IT Leadership Team; managing a hugely complex estate that blends traditional information technology (IT) with operational technology (OT), including radio, cellular, networks, data centres, CCTV, baggage conveyors, and display screens.
As critical national infrastructure, Heathrow is under constant threat of terrorist and cyber-attack, so my role requires a Level 1b Security Clearance, and carries a huge safeguarding responsibility. I am also the technology sponsor for the £4.7bn Asset Management & Compliance programme; a five-year, regulated effort to modernise and digitise Heathrow, whilst enhancing our level of cyber-protection.
Come work with me and live your best tech life, on one of the world's most ambitious technology transformations!
